When My Baby Smiles At Me - Ted Lewis
This has to be the definition of the 20s. The impact of movies and Broadway shows fashion, music, the rise of the gangster and his role in mens fashion, and tease out the influence of jazz on the landscape of modern music. Most importantly this shows off the "flapper" era where dancing lines first began.

Bessie's dentist's office was on 7th Avenue. There is a neighborhood called Striver's Row" which is known to be a very wealthy part of town. I found the New York Black Yankees pretty cool because I didn't know they eve had a black baseball team there. It was probably a great opportunity for blacks to come together to play the sport they loved. I also found out about Harlem Hospital and all the things they did to benefit the poor.
The connection to this would have to be the Harlem Renaissance. During this time arts and music took off. Sadie and Bessie would always describe their love for music and arts. It also relates because there were rich parts of the neighborhood and poor (black) parts of the area.

A man saw a ball of gold in the sky
I think this is a pretty awesome poem. I believe this poem is all about how you view your life. The man sees a ball of gold. However, once he reaches for it, it no longer matters as much to him. He takes the ball of gold for granted and thinks it is merely clay. Once he takes a step back and looks at it from a different light, he realizes it was a ball of gold. This is a good lesson for life in not taking anything that is special to us for granted.

Mark Twain Quote
"It is easier to stay out than get out."
I think this quote has a lot of meanings, but one specific meaning for life in the present. If you are given the opportunity to do something illegal, like smoking or drinking, it is easier to say no the first time, than to quit and say no years later. I think the meaning it had in the past was based on prison. If you obey the law, it is easier to stay out than try and get out.

Slave Ship
This is a picture of the horrible conditions in which slaves were treated. It shows the way slaves were packed like sardines and had to go to the top part of the ship just to breathe. They were incredibly malnourished so they could not fight back, and they were then sold at an auction to work as slaves just as they thought the worst was over.

Having My Say
Lately I have been getting really tired of Packers fans STILL talking about the Super Bowl. Congratulations Green Bay, you DID win, but it's been almost over a month now and you;re STILL talking about it. I understand the hype behind winning a huge game, excuse me, the biggest game in football, but it's been four weeks and I haven;t heard the end of it. All I am saying is please stop with the Packers shirts, flags, and hats. Go Bears.
There Was A Child Went Forth
I really enjoy the two sides the story can be taken. In one way, the child can literally pick up characteristics of anything he touches, but I like to think that the child didn't just take a physical part of it, but he stored it in his memory and the remembrance of anything he touched stayed with him all of his life. It is really cool to actually think about how any and every thing can affect us.
